Morehouse Parish

Union High School was founded in 1952 outside of Mer Rouge, Louisiana to serve the agricultural communities of Bonta, Collinston, Gallion, Jones, Lightwood, Mer Rouge, and Oak Ridge. Seeing as this was a farming community, the school year revolved around times of harvest so school would go on break when crops needed to be harvested. The school started out with four classrooms, an office, and library. The school continued to grow rapidly through the 1950s, and the Union Parish School Board constructed additions to the campus including a space for extra-curricular activities, a gymnasium, and a kitchen. In the 1966-67 school session, an auditorium and stadium were constructed. Union High School was soon dissolved in 1969 due to integration. The facilities are still extant and in use as Delta Junior High School
