Thomas A. Levy High School

Thomas A. Levy High School opened on March 16, 1953, and was dedicated on April 12, 1953. Its student body was formed by the consolidation of five smaller schools in the area: Rosedale School, West Oak Lane Elementary School, Grosse Tête Elementary School, Lower Maringouin School, and Upper Maringouin School. The school was named in honor of Reverend Thomas Adolph Levy. The school originally had two wings and 13 classrooms, but by 1969, had grown to encompass three wings, 30 classrooms, an industrial arts shop, home economics department, teachers lounge, library, gymnasium, music building, and more. Levy High School had wings for elementary, junior high, and high school classrooms. The school closed in 1970 with integration and was ultimately demolished around 2008. Duphil Inc., a construction company, purchased the site and situated their new building on top of the old school’s foundation. Parts of the school’s original footprint can still be seen from overhead.
