Phoenix High School originally opened in 1952, but closed during integration around 1970. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the historic school building had water inside it for three weeks. The school was demolished between 2007 and 2010 according to Google Earth aerials. A new raised Phoenix High School building was constructed on the site and opened in 2012, serving approximately 200 students in grades PreK-12.
