Paul Breaux High School was the only public school available to African American children in Lafayette Parish. Named in honor of Paul Breaux, an educator and education activist, the high school educated numerous African American student up until 1970 during desegregation. The school was then renamed Paul Breaux Middle School for students in grades 6-8 across Lafayette Parish.
