Hillcrest High School is located outside of the town of Athens, Louisiana and appeared in topographical mapping in 1950. The school is located on a small hill and runs parallel to LA-9 south of town. The building is divided into two main structures with a longer mid-century modern brick building aligned with a smaller mid-century modern brick building. Hillcrest High School was called Athens High School after integration and was later closed in 2013. The building is now vacant, but the land is owned by a resident of Athens.
